On 26th April 2023, USTB-DMU(De Montfort University) Confucius Institute(CI) held the first monthly academic seminar for CI staff members in the CI library. The Chinese Director of DMU CI, GU Wei, and all the teachers of the Confucius Institute attended the seminar.
First of all, Ms. ZHAI gave an academic presentation on the theme of "Intercultural communication.” She shared her reflections on the intercultural phenomenon in her daily teaching. She suggested that as international Chinese teachers, we should promote cultural exchange through good communication and achieve the transition from "push" to "introduce,” from "persuade" to "dialogue" so as to make it possible to obtain a balanced state of "two-way travel" of cross-cultural communication.
Afterward, Ms. ZHAO shared the "Multimodal teaching model in Classroom Application" theme report based on teaching practice. She first introduced the theoretical background and specific types of the multi-modal teaching method briefly. Then she took the teaching of Chinese characters as an example to give a deep analysis of multimodal teaching models in classroom application. Under the guidance of the multi-modal teaching method, she also put forward many effective suggestions on teachers' PPT design in combination with Chinese pronunciation, vocabulary, culture, and other aspects.
In the end, after a heated discussion, Ms. Gu made comments on each teacher's sharing and expressed her appreciation for their support and enthusiasm in academic exchanges. She is looking forward to the next academic exchange activity more exciting.
The monthly academic seminars will provide a learning opportunity and platform for the teachers of the Confucius Institute to combine language teaching with academic research. Through the seminar, they can share research results related to Chinese language teaching, the latest developments in academia, and front-line teaching experience to promote the mutual improvement of teachers' language teaching and academic research. They all enjoyed the event and hoped to have more such opportunities in the future.
