Office of International Affairs

About Us

1954
The Office of the Dean of the Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology (later to be renamed the University of Science and Technology Beijing) is made responsible for university foreign affairs. In the same year the Institute begins enrolling exchange students.
December 1979
The Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology establishes the Office of Foreign Affairs. In the same year the Institute signs a collaborative agreement with RWTH Aachen University in Germany. This is one of the earliest inter-university international agreements to be signed following China’s ‘Reform and Opening-Up’ period.
March 1984
The Beijing Institute of Iron and Steel Technology renames the Office of Foreign Affairs to the Department of Foreign Affairs, and establishes the Office of International Students and Office of Foreign Experts.
September 2007
With changes to the management of international exchanges and cooperation, the Department of Foreign Affairs was renamed the Office of International Affairs and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs.
2013
In order to meet growing demand, the International Student Center is established as a separate division after responsibility for the recruitment and management of international exchange students was split from the Office of International Affairs and Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan Affairs.
