The Inaugural Meeting of USTB Zhejiang Alumni Association was held in Hangzhou

On November 20th, Prof. WANG Luning, Vice President of USTB, Prof. HE Minqing, Associate Head of University Council and former Vice President of USTB led a team attended the inaugural meeting of USTB Zhejiang Alumni Association(hereinafter referred as “the Association”) in Hangzhou and actively informed alumni of the development achievements of USTB and the main contents of the 12th Party Congress and the 14th Five-Year Plan. Extensive and in-depth exchanges were made on gathering alumni strength to support the development of USTB, expanding enterprise-university-research cooperation, and improving the construction of the Alumni Association.
In the morning, the delegation visited Alibaba Cloud Apsara Park, accompanied by Mr. CHEN Xu (class of 1991 undergraduate alumni and class of 1997 PhD alumni ), Head of Alibaba Cloud's technical strategy, they had an in-depth understanding of Alibaba's big data platform and the construction of the park.
In the afternoon, the inaugural meeting of USTB Zhejiang Alumni Association was successfully held at the Hangzhou Zhijiang Hotel. Prof. WANG Luning and Prof. HE Qingmin attended the meeting on behalf of USTB and the Alumni Association. Representatives of alumni associations from the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta regions and more than 100 alumni from all over Zhejiang Province attended the inaugural meeting. Before the meeting, Prof. WANG Luning met with the new President of the Alumni Association Mr. QIU Jianping (class of 1987 alumni), a member of the Standing Committee of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the Board of Directors of GreatStar Group, to exchange views on enterprise-university-research cooperation and talent cultivation.
At the beginning of the inaugural meeting, Mr. WANG Yuesheng (class of 1982 alumni), Secretary General of Zhejiang Alumni Association, introduced the preparatory work on behalf of the preparatory group. During the meeting, the Charter of the Association was deliberated and passed and the organizational structure as well as the list of members were formulated. On behalf of USTB, Prof. WANG Luning awarded plaque and flag to the Asssociation and issued letters of appointment to the members of the first council.
Mr. WU Guilong, Chancellor of USTB, delivered a speech via video. He said that he was unable to be present in person due to the epidemic, but always followed the preparation of Zhejiang Alumni Association. On behalf of USTB, he expressed his gratitude to the alumni who strongly supported the preparatory work of the Alumni Association and hoped that the Association would contribute to the development of USTB and to the exchange as well as cooperation between the USTB and the local community.
Mr. QIU Jianping, the new president of Zhejiang Alumni Association, said that the Association is not only a bridge between alumni and their alma mater, but also a platform for mutual communication and exchange within alumni. The Association will take the initiative to integrate into the main battlefield of Zhejiang's construction and development, give full play to alumni resources, contribute to the economic development of Zhejiang, and help the development and growth of the alma mater and alumni.
Next year marks the 70th anniversary of USTB, and Zhejiang Alumni Association presented a West Lake Panorama Silk Scroll to its alma mater in the hope of a better future.
Mr. ZHOU Jungang, Secretary General of Shanghai Alumni Association; Mr. SUN Yanan, President of Suzhou Alumni Association; Mr. GAO Xiaofeng, President of Wuxi Alumni Association; and Mr. YANG Yuzi, President of Shenzhen Alumni Association delivered speeches, presented gifts to and congratulated Zhejiang Alumni Association. Mr. QIU Jianping, along with Mr. CHEN Yuezeng (class of 1983 alumni) and Mr. ZOU Hehong (class of 1981 alumni), Vice Presidents of the Association, delivered keynote speeches respectively.
