USTB Held the First Appointment Ceremony of the Advisory Committee of Legal Experts and the Forum on Managing the University by Law

On November 15, USTB held the first appointment ceremony of the Advisory Committee of Legal Experts (hereinafter referred as “Expert Committee”) and the Forum on Managing the University by Law. Prof. YANG Renshu, member of the Advisory Committee of Legal Experts and President of USTB; Prof. SUN Jinghong, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee and heads of members of the working group of Managing the University by Law, attended the appointment ceremony. Mr. SHENG Jiawei, Party Office and School Office Director presided over the ceremony.

At the meeting, Prof. SUN introduced the work related to the university's law-based governance from the aspects of system construction, team building, risk prevention, and legal publicity and education. He pointed out that the establishment of the Expert Committee marks a new stage in the university's rule of law work. The university will actively provide guarantee for legal experts to perform their duties and hopes that the Expert Committee can effectively play the role of "think tank" and "firewall" and contribute to the improvement of the university's governance capacity.

In the discussion and communication session, members of the Expert Committee exchanged ideas on strengthening and improving the rule of law in university and promoting the university’s governance by law and put forward a lot of pertinent opinions and suggestions. While acknowledging the achievements in the rule of law of USTB, the experts also said that they would devote themselves to their work to provide high-quality legal services for the university and help the development of the university.

In the concluding speech, Prof. YANG pointed out that the establishment of the Expert Committee is a practical measure and beneficial practice of the university to implement President XI Jinping's thought on the rule of law, further promote the university's law-based governance and improve the university's governance system. It is of great significance to improve the scientific, democratic, and law-based decision-making level of the university. He said that the work of the Expert Committee should be well handled. First, the committee should fully coordinate with relevant units in the university to form a joint force in running the university in accordance with the law. Second, experts should give full play to their role as advisors and assistants in important decision-making, the handling and settlement of major litigation-related cases, the publicity and education of the rule of law and the construction of legal disciplines. Third, relying on the professional advantages of the Expert Committee, we should build a collaborative training platform for legal talents and cultivate various type of excellent legal talents for USTB.
It is reported that the Expert Committee will select 12 experts from judicial organs, universities and law firms, who will provide support for the university in decision-making according to law, major legal affairs, publicity and education of the rule of law, and the construction of law discipline.
