From December 11thto 15th, 2020, the 11th World Biomaterials Congress was held online. At the opening ceremony, Professors CHEN Hong, FAN Yubo, FU Xiaobing, JIANG Xiqun, LIU Xuanyong, QIN ling, TANG Benzhong, TIAN Weidong, WANG Changyong, WANG Jun, WANG Yunbing, WENG Jie, YIN Jinghua, YU Zhentao, ZHANG Kai, ZHENG Yufeng and ZHENG Yudong of the International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering (IUSBSE) won the lifetime honorary title of "Biomaterials Science and Engineering Fellow" of IUSBSE. The outstanding academic achievements made by these experts in the field of biomaterials science and engineering were highly appraised.
The IUSBSE is a body that brings together national and multi-national groups dedicated to the advancement of biomaterials, surgical implants, prosthetics, artificial organs, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. It currently includes members from Australia, Canada, China, Chinese Taipei, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, South America and The United States of America. It was formerly known as the International Liaison Committee of Societies for Biomaterials (ILC) in 1980. In 1998, it passed the new regulations and officially registered "International Union of Societies for Biomaterials Science and Engineering" in the U.S.A.. Its mission is monitoring of progress in organization of World Biomaterials Congresses ensuring scientific excellence and designation of fellows, biomaterials science and engineering.

Prof. Jiang has established a universal method for preparing biopolymer nanocarriers and developed high tumor targeting and penetrating drug delivery systems, in particular, boronic acid-rich nanomedicines and poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone)-b-poly(ε-caprolactone) drug delivery systems. Furthermore, he has designed a series of hypoxia-specific ultrasensitive macromolecular probes for early detection of tumors and cancer metastasis.

Prof. Xuanyong Liu has developed some novel bioactive and antibacterial coatings/films for applications in orthopedics and dentistry fields. Dr. Qin has been working on advanced diagnosis and treatment of bone disorders, in collaboration with material scientists and engineers to develop innovative orthopaedic implants and devices. He invented thermo-sensitive polymer and the related surface modification technique, thus solved the safety challenges of the indwelling and interventional devices.

Prof. Zheng has achieved Outstanding achievements on biocomposites for regeneration of skin, cartilage and nerve , winning the national and provincial-level incentives awards, published over 80 papers,obtained over 30 national invention patents and CFDA certificates. She made a contribution in biomaterials in China as a council member or vice chairman of Chinese society of biomaterials and branchs, as well as take charge of the international conferences and exchange .
For working on biocomposites for regeneration of skin, cartilage and nerve for a long time. As a project leader, she has undertaken and completed over 30 research projects including China national or provincial and international joint projects. She has published over 120 papers, obtained over 30 national invention patents. Several achievements have been successfully put into industrial and medical applications and she has achieved the national and provincial-level rewards. Meanwhile she served as the council member of Chinese society of biomaterials and vice chairman of biocomposites branches, as well as a Member of Medical Device Classification Committee and evaluation expert of CFDA, and so on.
