Obligations Of Foreign Teachers and Experts Of USTB

OBLIGATIONS OF FOREIGN TEACHERS AND EXPERTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY BEIJING

In order to maintain a good teaching environment at USTB and to protect the safety and welfare of foreign teachers and experts and the interests of the university, foreign teachers and experts are required to observe the following obligations and regulations.

1. Chinese laws and rules and the regulations of USTB should be observed at all times, and respect should be shown towards Chinese manners and customs.

2. Applications for a Residence Permit or for any change or extension to an existing Residence Permit should be made in accordance with the regulations issued by the Administrative Department for the Entry and Exit of Aliens in the Beijing Public Security Bureau.

3. USTB provides an apartment for each foreign teacher and requires that all foreign teachers should reside on campus unless special permission has been granted to the contrary. Foreign teachers who do not live in an apartment provided by USTB must register at both the local police station and the International Office and take responsibility for their own safety.

4. High-powered electrical appliances, such as electric stoves, are not permitted in apartments. Flammable, explosive or hazardous substances are also prohibited. Due attention should be paid to fire prevention.

5. It is forbidden to restructure, change or do anything that may cause damage to the equipment and furniture in the apartment.

6. Activities contrary to Chinese law or the regulations of USTB are prohibited. Subleasing or transfer of the apartment is forbidden. Visitors are not permitted to stay overnight in the apartment.

7. Foreign teachers should close their windows and lock their doors before leaving their rooms and should not give their keys to others.

8. Foreign teachers must be responsible for their personal belongings. Substantial amounts of cash should be deposited in the bank. Valuables should not be left or kept in public places such as classroom or libraries.

9. Foreign teachers and experts are explicitly forbidden to take part-time jobs.

10. Foreign currency may be exchanged in the bank. It is illegal to change currency in non-official places.

11. The Chinese government respects the religious beliefs of foreigners but it is illegal for foreigners to preach any religion or engage in any evangelical religious activity in China. Foreign teachers may attend churches and approved religious institutions but must not attend any illegal religious gatherings.

12. Foreign teachers may not buy or drive a car without obtaining a licence plate, nor may they drive a car without a driving licence. Speeding and driving after drinking alcohol are strictly prohibited.

13. Foreign teachers should not swim in insecure or dangerous places such as rivers, lakes and reservoirs.

14. Gambling, excessive drinking, fighting or anything that may disturb the teaching, academic and research life of USTB are prohibited.

15. Prostitution, taking drugs and drug trafficking are strictly prohibited.
