USTB Students Wanted for Conference at United Nations on Refugees and Migrants
From Syrian refugees sailing across the Mediterranean to find safety in Europe, to the Rohingya fleeing religious persecution in Myanmar, the world has seen growing instances of migrant flight in recent years. But what can be done about this, and what should the global response be? On January 9, 2018, the University of Science and Technology Beijing’s partner university De Montfort University, UK, will host a conference at the United Nations in New York City, USA, to discuss these issues and how universities can work towards solving this growing challenge.
If you are interested in addressing the plight of refugees and migrants, USTB is looking for 5 forward-thinking and motivated students to represent the university and make our voice heard. The conference will address the current status of global migrant flight, what universities can do to address the situation, and what steps must be taken in the future. There will be opportunities for students to pose comments and questions to panel participants, and we fully expect USTB representatives to lend their voices to the proceedings.
If you are interested in participating in the event, please submit an application online (Link: project.ustb.edu.cn Deadline: Dec.12,2017). Interviews to determine suitable candidates will be held at the USTB International Office. Students should come prepared to discuss their knowledge of refugee/migrant issues and demonstrate their ability to represent USTB in this event. Students with a personal or academic background related to the topic are highly desired! Interviews will be conducted in English. We hope that you will bring your enthusiasm and ideas to help USTB make its mark on this event!
*Cost for flights to the US and accommodations during the conference will be provided by USTB. Students must have a passport and ability to apply for a US visa. Any additional costs will be the responsibility of the participant.
